Angina

Dr. Alrich L. Gray // Central Montana Heart & Vascular Institute

Angina

Angina is a term for chest pain, most often caused by reduced blood flow to heart muscles. Symptoms of angina include:

  • Chest pain or discomfort, which may feel like pressure, tightness, or burning
  • Pain in your arms, neck, jaw, shoulder or back
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sweating

Your doctor may treat angina with blood thinners, beta blockers, medications that relax and widen your blood vessels, lower your blood pressure, or lower your cholesterol. Your doctor may also perform an angioplasty, which is a procedure where he inserts a stent into your artery. The stent will widen the arteries in your heart to improve blood flow and reduce chest pain.
